Bio data format for Sri Lanka job applications
If a vacancy asks for biodata, first check whether it provides a form or a list of required fields. This guide covers employment biodata: a concise record of your contact details, education, skills and experience for a job application.
Biodata, CV or application form?
The wording in a vacancy matters more than the document label. A CV lets you select and explain relevant experience. A supplied application form asks every candidate for the same fields in a fixed order. If the employer asks for that form, complete it; attach a separate CV only if requested or permitted. This page is for employment, not marriage biodata.

Replace the placeholders with accurate details. Remove optional sections that the employer does not need. If a prescribed form is available, transfer your information into that form instead.

[Date and signature, where required] How to complete it without work experience
Write your education and training first. Where appropriate, include a school project, volunteering or practical work with a clear explanation of your contribution. If a required employment-history field does not apply, say “No formal work experience” instead of inventing a job. Identify examination results as pending when they have not been issued.
Personal information and supporting documents
- Start with information needed to contact you and assess your suitability.
- Check why additional personal fields are requested before sharing them. Do not add identity-document scans to a general CV by default.
- List qualifications accurately, but attach certificates only as the application instructions request.
- Obtain consent before including a referee’s phone number or email.
- Use the employer’s stated language, document format and submission method.
Final application checklist
- The position and reference number match the vacancy.
- Names and qualification details match your records.
- Required fields are complete and optional placeholders are removed.
- The declaration is signed and dated if the form requires it.
- Required supporting documents are attached and clearly named.
Frequently asked questions
Is this an official Sri Lankan government biodata form?
No. This is a general employment outline. For a government vacancy or any prescribed application, use the form and instructions issued with that vacancy.
Should I submit both biodata and a CV?
Follow the vacancy instructions. Avoid sending duplicate documents unless the employer asks for both or they serve different requested purposes.
